Atlanta awaits ‘Gennadi’s Choice’ program

Gennadi Nedvigin of Atlanta BalletFor the first time, audiences will witness new Atlanta Ballet Artistic Director Gennadi Nedvigin’s vision take the stage through Gennadi’s Choice – an exciting program curated by Gennadi himself and designed to explore the evolution and transformative nature of dance. Ranging from 19th century masterpiece Paquita, to a captivating piece by famed British choreographer Liam Scarlett, to a brand-new work created by emerging choreographer Gemma Bond, this triple-bill celebrates the timeless beauty and power of ballet. The program will run for one weekend only, March 17-19, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

 

“I wanted to present the audience with a program that showcases traditional, classical style in its original form, then continues to evolve throughout the contemporary works of the evening,” stated Nedvigin. “Through these three diverse pieces, audiences will have the opportunity witness how ‘traditional’ and ‘innovative’ can come together to create something extraordinary.”

 

Nedvigin joined Atlanta Ballet in July 2016 as the fourth artistic director in the company’s 87-year history. He had just finished dancing 19 seasons with San Francisco Ballet, where he was regarded as one of the most celebrated dancers of the renowned West Coast company’s current era. Through the three diverse works that make up his inaugural season’s first mixed repertory program, longtime ballet supporters and newfound followers alike will experience Gennadi’s vision for the company for the first time.
