Dance Theatre of Harlem coming to Vail

Vail International Dance Festival welcomes Dance Theatre of Harlem in August 2016Vail International Dance Festival will welcome the Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) for the first time this summer. The company will perform at the incredible Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colorado on Wednesday, August 10. Plus, two DTH dancers (Da’ Von Doane and Nayara Lopes) will be featured in the festival’s signature International Evenings of Dance on Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6.

 

Running July 30 through August 13, the 2016 Vail International Dance Festival features many other performances, as well as various Fringe Events and Master Classes with visiting artists. Opening Night kicks off with a show featuring Memphis jookin’ virtuoso Lil Buck and American Ballet Theatre’s exquisite ballerina Isabella Boylston, who is this year’s Artist-in-Residence.

 

Philadelphia’s acclaimed contemporary ballet company BalletX is the festival’s 2016 Company-In-Residence. It will present an evening of works both familiar and new with the hilarious dance Slump and the 2015 work Show Me set for Sunday, July 31.

 

The highly anticipated NOW: Premieres program will feature a collection of new works commissioned by the festival. The cast of choreographers and artists includes Jodie Gates, Lil Buck, Rashaun Mitchell, Silas Riener, Matthew Neenan, Claudia Schreier, Jodi Melnick and Shantala Shivalingappa.
