Flyaway Productions offers Flight School

Flight School in San FranciscoAfter Flyaway Productions premiered Jo Kreiter’s Multiple Mary and Invisible Jane on the exterior of a four-story building last month, the apparatus-based dance company is now preparing to offer its nine-week Flight School.

The Flight School/Off-the-Ground Dance Workshop will be held October 19-December 14 on Sundays between 3 and 4:45 p.m. at Zaccho Studio, located at 1777 Yosemite Avenue in San Francisco, California. Dancers and performers of all levels are welcome to participate in this technique workshop that focuses on movement innovations that are possible when dancing with suspended objects.

This opportunity is part of the company’s overall mission to teach others its signature style of apparatus-based dance. Flyaway Productions offers year-round classes to adults, teens and youth. This workshop will specifically work with a flying boat, a kitchen pot, a suspended umbrella, steel poles and half circles.

In the past, Flyaway Productions has performed on a three-story fire escape, an oversized scale of justice, a circling merry-go-round, suspended containers of salt, a steel-framed bath, a chandelier on fire, a live billboard, a bridge replica and on 100 foot city walls. The company’s work has been presented by ODC Theater, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the International Aerial Festival, the SkyDancers Festival and just last week, the Aerial Dance Festival.
