River North offers One-Day Workshops

River North Dance Chicago WorkshopsRiver North Dance Chicago just celebrated the retirement of its longtime Artistic Director Frank Chaves with a special performance at the Auditorium Theatre. Now the company is preparing to offer various educational workshops since it will not present any other performances this season as it transitions to a new phase.

According to the company, these workshops are the most accessible way to become familiar with River North’s iconic style, repertoire and creative process. This year’s expanded workshop menu is designed to “deepen and broaden your training.”

The first workshop is less than two weeks away! Set for Sunday, October 18, the Fall Seminar Workshop offers a comprehensive day of classes and seminars for dancers in high school, college and early professional careers. It will focus on both technique and professional development. Made up of three sessions, attendees can choose individual sessions or the full day.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., River North hosts a College Planning Seminar titled “Managing the Maze” with Counselor Sandra Gilbert. After a short break, the workshop starts back with ballet and jazz technique classes from 12:30 to 3:45 p.m. Then from 4-6 p.m. there will be a professional job fair.

Other one-day workshops for the 2015-16 Season are scheduled for December 21, January 2, February 7, March 6 and April 3. Designed for pre-teens, teenagers and young adults at an intermediate, advanced or pre-professional level, these workshops offer technique and dynamic expression classes taught by RNDC staff and company members. These workshops are also the best opportunity to audition for the acclaimed Summer Training Programs.

Space is limited for these workshops so the company recommends registering early to secure your spot. Visit http://rivernorthchicago.com for more information.
