Steps hosts Broadway and tap events

Steps on Broadway Master Class with Gregory GrahamThis week, New York’s premier dance studio Steps on Broadway will host two fun special events. On Wednesday, Steps will offer a Broadway Repertory Master Class with Gregory Graham, the associate choreographer on the 2014 Broadway revival of On the Town. On Friday, in association with Divine Rhythm Productions, Steps will present Tap Off The Turkey, led by Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards and Jason Samuels Smith for intermediate and advanced tappers.

Graham’s master class is constructed for intermediate and advanced theater dancers. The lucky participants will get to learn exclusive choreography from Broadway’s 2014 On the Town on Wednesday, November 26 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Graham recently won the Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Choreography for Somewhere at Hartford Stage.

Tap Off The Turkey, the perfect event for dancers looking to kick off their holiday season in style, is an annual workshop designed to offer intermediate and advanced tap dancers the chance to train with leaders in the field while also working off the extra calories consumed at Thanksgiving the day before.

Steps on Broadway 2014 eventLeaders Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, a former tap coach for Michael Jackson who recently performed in After Midnight on Broadway, and Emmy Award winner Jason Samuels Smith, of Black Nativity and So You Think You Can Dance, will lead warm-up, technique, combinations and a tap jam, equaling three hours of total rhythmic joy.
