Tap dancers headed to Soul to Sole festival

Tapestry Dance Company 2018Tapestry Dance Company, a professional repertory tap dance ensemble in Austin, TX, will soon present its annual festival of rhythm, known as the Soul to Sole Festival. Now in its 18th year, the festival will run from June 13-17. It will offer more than 75 master classes taught by critically acclaimed and world-renowned artists and faculty. Choreography courses, tap jams and panel discussions will take students from traditional to contemporary techniques.

The festival is anchored by Tapestry’s faculty performance with the Soul to Sole Jazz Trio at Austin’s Rollins Theatre at The Long Center for the Performing Arts.

The 2018 festival guest artists include Acia Gray, Dianne Walker, Jason Janas, Max Pollak, Nicholas Young, Nicole Hockenberry, Siobhan Alexis, Skip Cunningham, Terry Brock and Tony Merriwether.

Past Soul to Sole Festivals have hosted legendary tap dance artists like Fayard Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers, Arthur Duncan (The Lawrence Welk Show), Jeni LeGon (the original Minnie the Moocher) and pioneers Brenda Bufalino, Sarah Petronio, Jane Goldberg and Heather Cornell. Contemporary leaders in the field, such as Michelle Dorrance and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, have also participated in the past.

The unique five-day festival will bring the passion of dance to the stage with hundreds of feet keeping time in a true celebration of rhythm.
