Things set to heat up at The Ailey Extension!

Salsa Class in New York CityIt may be cold outside, but things are hotter than ever at the Ailey Extension! This weekend, dancers are invited to attend a celebration of love and culture with a series of special events: the Celebrating Brazilian Carnaval and two Valentine’s Zumba Dance Parties on Saturday, February 13, and Valentine’s Day Salsa on Sunday, February 14.

On Saturday, Samba instructor Quenia Ribiero leads participants on a full-day journey with the Celebrating Brazilian Carnaval. This will include open level dance and drumming workshops throughout the day, including “Samba in Platform Heels” (1-2 pm), “Samba Drumming with Nick Birmelin” (2-3:30 pm) and “Samba Reggae/Samba Da Bahia” (4-6 pm), followed by a “Brazilian Carnaval Party” (7-11 pm). You can come for one event or sign up for the full day of revelry!

The Ailey Extension’s Valentine’s weekend festivities will also kick off on Saturday with two 90-minute, heart-pumping workouts for students of all levels. Richard Martinez will lead a Valentine’s Zumba Dance Party at 11:30 am, and Karen Arceneaux will lead the 6 pm Zumba Dance Party. These events are a fun, heart-healthy way to start this special weekend, and participants are encouraged to wear red.

The celebration continues on Sunday with Valentine’s Day Salsa with Baila Society at 7 pm. Whether you come alone or with a sweetheart, this two-hour workshop is sure to spice up your Valentine’s Day. Meet new people, enjoy the rhythmic Latin music, and learn moves that will turn heads on the dance floor. This event is led by the world’s most sought after salsa instructors, and no experience is required.
